To quote from Today newspaper:

"His successful mission to the International Space Station (ISS) has also introduced a new word into the Malaysian lexicon: angkasawan, which is Malay for astronaut."

Such ignorance definitely cannot be forgiven, for we've learnt the word angkasawan before we even knew the jargons of biology and chemistry. How can such a claim, with so much implications as to say that this word was created to commemorate the event is definitely unforgivable for such a widely published paper. Poke fun as you may, but I believe that this programme will have much more positive impact on the future generation, be it in space programme whatsoever, it gives the younger generation a greater exposer to the wide array of occupation and fields, so that they may not always stick back to the same old safe and well- known 'professional' ones. I do hope that the younger generations will be more adventurous to explore other fields, and not just resign to the fixed mindset of the older ones that only encourage children to become 'doctors, engineers' lawyers and accountants' (my apologies for the stereotype) . Though we still need such people, but I believe our pool has more talent than that than to keep competing within the same fields. We should stop forcing people to become a professional, just because it provides a secure job and good income.

Surprisingly, this is one of the programmes that I'm not skeptical about, because being a dreamer, such a rare opportunity certainly doesn't come by everyday. Be glad and be positive. People who laugh are those who have resigned to the fate of the everyday, the mundane and the banal. Pooh pooh them. For once, I actually think we did something good, or at least it felt like a correct move.

Well, at least the angkasawan is a model human being to all Malaysians, with such good looks and illustrious achievements, there isn't anyone quite more befitting the role.
